CHARLENE Fung-a-Fat, daughter of former Chief Magistrate Paul Fung-a-Fat, was yesterday admitted to the local bar after Attorney-at-law Peter Hugh had petitioned Chief Justice Ian Chang in the presence of several of her family members.

Coming from a family of legal professionals, Charlene attained her certificate in legal education from the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago earlier this year.

She had, in 2013, graduated from the University of Guyana with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law, prior to which she had achieved her secondary education at the Mae’s Schools.

The Chief Justice accepted the petition, and advised the new attorney on the rigours of the journey ahead.
“You may have finished that heat, but the race is yet to commence, with the marathon ahead,” he cautioned the young lawyer as he congratulated her on attaining this new milestone.

In response, Ms Fung-a-Fat thanked the Chief Justice for his words of encouragement, and attorney Hugh for presenting her petition. And then she vowed to uphold the principles of the legal profession.
