Alleged killer of GPHC staff surrenders to police –murder charge expected to be laid shortly

ALLAN Sim, called ‘Cayenne’, turned himself in to the police yesterday at the Alberttown Police Station. He was accompanied by an attorney. The 55-year-old resident of Paradise, East Coast Demerara, is accused of the Monday afternoon stabbing and subsequent death of 32-year-old Melissa Skeete of Plaisance, ECD, a dispatcher with the Ambulance Services Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

Sim is alleged to have stabbed Skeete, the mother of his three-year-old daughter, Jelana, eight times about her body, and to have pushed her out of his car on Charmichael Street, Georgetown, from where a car driver transported her to the GPHC, where she died hours later whilst undergoing surgery.

Sim is expected to be arraigned in a Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on murder charges later this week.

A post-mortem conducted yesterday by Forensic Pathologist Dr. Nehul Singh determined that a single stab wound inflicted to Skeete’s stomach was “too deep”, and was responsible for her death.

Skeete’s relatives allege that she had shared an “on-and-off” relationship with Sim for more than ten years, during which tme she had been constantly abused and controlled by him, although he is married. She had finally decided to end the abusive affair when tragedy struck.

The woman is survived by her four children, among other relatives and friends. (Shauna Jemmott)
