AS the Government of Guyana and the Ministry of Education continue to invest in the education sector, all children across Guyana in primary schools will be equipped with the necessary textbooks.

In addition, all students in nursery, primary and secondary schools will now have adequate furniture in their schools.
Minister of Education, Ms. Priya Manickchand related recently at the commissioning of the St. Agnes Primary School that “all our children in every primary school across this country should have textbooks for Mathematics, English, Science and Social Studies in their book bags.”
She explained that over the last two years the ministry has procured books specifically to meet the needs of primary school students.

CALL TO PARENTS
Ms. Manickchand noted that this has never been done before in the country’s education system and encouraged parents and guardians to inform the ministry if they have children who are not given these textbooks.
“We would like to hear from parents if this is not so. We would like to know from which school so we can rectify this problem and find out from that school’s administration why this is so,” she emphasised.
She also indicated that while this initiative will assist parents “you should supplement these textbooks with others so as to assist in your children’s education. Any investment in your child is a worthy investment.”
“By next week every single school across this country whether you are from Charity in Region 2, Corentyne Coast, Buxton or Georgetown, we will have enough furniture for every single child attending that school to sit comfortably,” Manickchand assured.

NO FURTHER FURNITURE PROBLEM
The ministry has been working to acquire adequate sets of furniture for each nursery, primary and secondary school and the minister related that after now there will no longer be a furniture problem.
“In the future we either refurbish what is broken or simply replace a few,” she stated.
Ms. Manickchand also indicated that by next year “all our teachers will be as comfortable as our children are now. By next year all teachers will have enough furniture to make their jobs more comfortable.”
The Ministry of Education is asking all parents and guardians whose children have not received textbooks or whose children are complaining that there is not adequate furniture in their school to please contact the ministry with such information so that the matter can be attended to immediately.
