Albion Community Centre defeated Upper Corentyne by 140 runs to book a place in the last six of the Bobby Deonarine and Tom Gruntzel sponsored Tenelec Inc round robin fifty overs first division cricket competition. A classy 92* (6×4) from fast emerging batsman David Latchaya, a responsible 82 (3×4) from national wicket keeper batsman Anthony Bramble and a six wicket haul from West Indies left arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul all helped the effort.

In a match that was played under sweltering heat at the Port Mourant ground and not at the Albion ground because of the Kumar Sanu show, saw Albion winning the toss and taking first strike.
They had a steady start of 40 by openers national under 19 all rounder Balchand Baldeo and former Guyana youth opener Kandasammy Surujnarine before the latter went caught behind off skipper Lakeram Latchman for 25.
National Under 17 opener Adrian Sukhwa joined Baldeo but did not last long going lbw to Davanand Chatterpaul for 4. Bramble came to the crease just before Baldeo went for 47 stumped off Naeem Yacoob.
Latchaya, who many felt was unlucky not to be selected in the national Under- 19 team last year, joined forces with Anthony Bramble and put on a huge partnership that took the wind out of the Upper Corentyne team before Bramble was bowled by Omesh Kumar for 82.
Controversially dropped West Indies left arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul who is fast developing into a genuine all rounder came in and raced to an unbeaten 31.
Latchaya was still there on 92 N O as Albion ended on 291 for 4 off their allotted 50 overs.
In reply, UCCA had a good start of 35 between Parmeshwar Chatterpaul and Naeem Yacoob. The other partnership of significance was between Balram Samoroo and Lakeram Latchman which yielded 40 runs.
West Indies lost is Albion gain as Permaul came on to bowl and ripped through the rest of the batting line up ending 6 for 14 off 8.3 overs to help bowl out UCCA for 151, losing by 140 runs. Totaram Persaud topscored with 29 N O. Balram Samaroo supported with 25.
This means that Albion has already secured a place in the last six teams of the competition.
They have joined Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets in their zone and the two teams will clash shortly to determine the zone winner.
