Albion crush Rose Hall Town with 150 -run win

POWERHOUSE Albion Community Centre embarrassed Rose Hall Town yet again, this time in their final preliminary round match of the 2015 Tenelec 50-overs first division cricket competition, by recording a massive 150-run victory.Playing at the Port Mourant ground earlier yesterday, in blistering heat on a parched outfield, Rose Hall Town were shot out for a paltry 56 from 15.5 overs in pursuit of a challenging 207 for victory.
Fiery 17-year-old pacer Josiah Dhanai destroyed the heart of the Rose Hall Town batting, claiming a hattrick as he ended with 4 for 35 while off-spinner Balchan Baldeo with whom he shared the new ball bagged 3 for 16 and Guyana Jaguars’ first class hopeful Gudakesh Motie 3 for 5 with the left-arm-spin.
Out-of-favour Guyana one-day batsman Rajiv Ivan, who returned to Rose Hall Town, has sparked controversy at least from two cricket clubs in Berbice, one of those being Albion, who played yesterday’s match under a protest disputing the authenticity of Ivan’s release from Port Mourant back to Rose Hall Town. Ivan was the only batsman to reach double figures with 14.
It was a pathetic display of batting as none of the Rose Hall Town batsmen showed any inclination for batting on an excellent batting surface, paying the price for some thoughtless shot selection.
Earlier in the day, Albion recovered from a precarious position of 44 for 3 in the 10 overs to post 206 all out off 49.1 of their allotted 50 overs after winning the toss and taking first strike.
Talented 19-year-old right-hander David Latchaya, continuing his impressive form this season, was the architect of Albion’s recovery with a classy 63, a knock decorated with five fours, having shared in two important partnerships along the way.
He first shared in a fourth-wicket stand of 49 in 9 overs with Anthony Bramble before Bramble was run-our for 23, with the score on 93 in the 19 overs then added a crucial exact 50 for the seventh wicket with Motie, which carried the score to 163 in the 36th over.
Motie contributed a well-composed 29 while Daniel Lewis with 16 and Ritesh Omroe (13) also batted well in the lower order to guide Albion to their eventual total.
Pacemen Kellon Sinclair and leg-spinner Shawn Pereira picked up three wickets each for 41 and 42 respectively while off-spinner Troy Matheson supported with 2 for 41.
The win has ensured Albion topped the Corentyne Zone with Rose Hall Town having to settle for the runner-up slot.
Albion will now meet the New Amsterdam/Canje Zone’s runner-up Bermine at home in the playoffs while Rose Hall Town will travel to meet Police, and Young Warriors will engage West Berbice in the other two playoffs.
The playoffs are all set for this Saturday.
