Akeem Green wins GBTI’s 50-mile cycle road race in Berbice

 

TROJAN Cycle Club’s Akeem Green on Sunday rode away with the Flying Ace Cycle Club-organised, Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI)-sponsored 9th annual 50-mile cycle road race which was held in Berbice.According to reports, Green overshadowed his rivals on the downward journey after pedalling off from outside the GBTI’s Corriverton, Berbice branch office and in the process, won four of 12 prime prizes that were up for grabs.
After wheeling off from Corriverton, the 22 participants who were all from the Berbice area journeyed to Adventure up the Corentyne Coast before returning the place of origin for the finish.
Romello Crawford placed second and Andrew Hicks, a member of Guyana’s junior team who will represent Guyana at the upcoming Junior Caribbean Championships, placed third.
The other top three overall performers were Jebon Crawford, Brian Harris and Syborne Fernandes respectively.
The juveniles category was won by Zaman Khan who finished ahead of Ralph Seenarine, Alex Burnett and Delwin Bowman respectively.
The juveniles were given a five-minute head-start and Khan took advantage of this and rode away with the first four prime prizes while the others went to Hicks and Balram Narine with one each.
The female category was won by Tamika Teixeira. Second in this category was Christine Mathenson and finishing third was Whitney Poyer. Teixeira also won the two prime prizes that were up for grabs in the female category.
The females started at Number 51 Village and finished at the GBTI Corriverton branch.
