NERISA Spencer, 40, of Company Road, Buxton, died on Thursday evening after she was struck down by a speeding car while on her way to teach her aerobics class at a church on Lamaha Street, Georgetown. According to eyewitness reports, around 19:26 hrs, a silver Allion bearing licence plate number PTT 9623 was speeding west along Lamaha Street when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and struck down Spencer.

The vehicle subsequently collided with two other cars and flipped several times before landing on its side. At the time of the accident, the road was wet from prolonged showers during the day.
The 40-year-old mother of two was said to have been walking west of Lamaha Street when the car, travelling in the opposite direction, slammed into her, the impact of which flung her into a nearby yard.
The woman was reported to have died on the spot, but was officially pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Meanwhile, the driver of PTT 9623 was removed from the badly wrecked vehicle and transported to the hospital. The man, who was not immediately identified, was said to have been unconscious.
The scene of the accident was a dramatic one. Persons rushed to get glimpses of the body and the badly wrecked vehicle, despite light showers.
It was later revealed by members of the nearby ‘Open Bible Church’, who were on the scene, that Spencer was on her way to church to teach aerobics class – a practice which she has been involved in for a number of years.

“I know this woman boy… this woman is a nice woman. She does go this church hay and teach aerobics class… is deh she was going,” one member of the church said.
The woman’s mother, who is an employee at the Guyana National Newspapers Limited (GNNL), upon arrival at the GPHC, could not contain herself and immediately broke down in tears.
The distraught woman, though told that her daughter was killed, could not fathom the idea of this being real and instantly burst through the doors of the Emergency Unit.
The now dead woman’s eldest son, Ryan Spencer, who is a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) soldier, also stood outside the walls of the hospital in disbelief.
Nerisa was once married to former Guyana Chronicle Assistant Sport Editor Calvin Roberts. Roberts passed away last year on this very day after losing his battle to renal failure.
The woman is said to be a devoted Christian who served as a member of the Buxton Fellowship Church.
