Action storms Albouystown -eight more teams advance to next round

TENSE FINISHES, most of which came via penalty shootouts, were the hallmark of rivalries Saturday night last when the 2013 Mackeson ‘Keep Your Five Alive’ football competition continued at Punt Trench and School Street, Albouystown.

altUnderdogs Rasville ‘A’ opened the night’s proceedings with a victory that came against Middle East on penalties after a nil-all stalemate was the result at the end of regulation time, before Ned Fraser scored the lone goal in the 13th minute to give West Back Road a 1-0 win against Bent Street in the second game.
Rasta’s continued the tense night of competition when they also won on penalties against Island All-Stars before a huge crowd in Albouystown, followed by a Shem Porter’s brace in the 4th and 10th minute of play, that handed Alexander Village a 2-1 win against Charlotte Street.
Devon Charles scored first for Charlotte Street, doing so in the 7th minute before Porter spoiled his team’s hopes of recording a first round defeat, with his double strike, following which Middle Road and North East played to a one all draw, with Jermaine Junior scoring for Middle Road in the 3rd minute and S. Brown for North East four minutes later after regulation time expired.
Team L.A defeated House Street on penalties after a 1-1 stalemate, with Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson scoring in the 5th minute for the former, before Dillon Kelly equalised one minute later for the latter who lost out on penalty kicks in the end, with River View also defeating Leopold Street on penalties.
In the final game of a pulsating night of football action, Devon Forde scored in the 10th minute and Roy Samuels four minutes later to hand Albouystown ‘B’ a 2-0 victory over Kingstown that saw them through to the next round in the competition.
The event is being held under the theme “Your skill, your style, your five, your stout” and will be played at several venues in Georgetown with the top team taking home $300,000 and runner-up $150,000 in cash prize. Trophies will also accompany the cash prizes.
Following the competition in Albouystown, another eight teams have joined those that went into the next round from California Square last Wednesday night.
