A country’s Olympic moment is during the parade of nations

AS we journey through life, many of us are guided by inspirational books, poems, movies, etc., and a classic of the latter is “Chariots of Fire” along with its theme song. I strongly suggest that persons include it within their personal collection of movie classics.

Most importantly, persons within the sports fraternity should make a special effort to view this particular movie for there is so much to learn from it and I also believe that it will in many ways contribute significantly towards their personal self development as ambassadors representing Guyana at any given international competition.

Being an Olympic enthusiast, it’s my belief that a country’s Olympic moment is during the parade of nations at the opening and closing ceremonies and the moment of glory is the opportunity for a country to be represented on the winners podium and witnessing their flag been hoisted.

I am also eternally optimistic that some day one of our hidden talents and potential icons will do his/her ambassadorial duties in producing results from been drug free with extremely clean performance. No doubt, but that journey and adventure will be extremely tough and I am very confident that we have the stamina to withhold those many challenges.

Dr Steve Surujbally in his GC commentary dated Feb.12, 09 and titled, “Crawford has no need for limelight” made some very interesting points which I made some notes of and I also await the decision from the Court of Arbitration on this issue regarding the athlete’s personal decision.

However, I have one very simple question for the above mentioned contributor and that is: If for some strange reason the Court of Arbitration rules in favour of Crawford’s personal decision, will you lead the way in petitioning to the IOC via the local arm of the Olympic Committee on behalf of the Brazilian marathon athlete from the Athens 2004 games to be reinstated/moved up to the gold medal position?
I say no further.
