5 years’ jail on lesser count; ‘Sorry’ for what he did

JERMAINE King was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment yesterday by Justice Navindra Singh in the High Court after he pleaded guilty to the lesser count of causing grievous bodily harm on his reputed wife on November 16, 2013.

King pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and Justice Singh accepted the guilty plea for causing grievous bodily harm, inflicted on Anchinalu Kannings.

King told Justice Singh that he was sorry for what he had done since his reputed wife was a lovely woman who had been taking care of his children.

King admitted that he acted in anger and said he regretted his actions, which resulted in Kannings receiving injuries to the body in a domestic squabble back in 2013.

He will serve three years since two years will be deducted for time served in jail.

King was unrepresented by a lawyer, while the state prosecutors were Michael Shahoud and Orinthia Schmidt.
