THE Ministry of Public Health was yesterday the beneficiary of a $40M donation of medical supplies from the Hope for the Nation Foundation.Being new to the field of volunteerism, the organisation is here with the aim of promoting health and fighting diseases. Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, Minister within the Ministry of Public Health, Dr Karen Cummings, thanked the foundation for their donation.
“The equipment and supplies donated…will certainly go a long way in improving the delivery of health care services in Guyana,” Dr Cummings said.
Among the items donated were bed-support rails, nasoenetric feeding tubes, syringes, paediatric manual resuscitators and fluid-dispensing connectors.
It was noted that donations such as these are reasons why the health care system is continuously improving; however, the minister said that improvement of the system is a task which cannot be undertaken solely by the government.
As such, Dr Cummings said the ministry is committed to ensuring that the health needs of all citizens are met. Meanwhile, President of the Hope for the Nation Foundation, Dr Abdel Bari, said this is the foundation’s first token to Guyana, but plans are on stream to assist the poor, provide breakfast for schoolchildren and offer extensive assistance when it comes to boosting the hinterland regions.
According to Dr Bari, “Guyana has great potential of being one of the richest countries, but it can only happen if there is a cohesive approach towards the betterment of society.”
