Investigation launched into motorcyclist’s death

POLICE are investigating the fatal accident which claimed the life of 29-year-old motorcyclist, Shawn Andrew Burrows. Burrows was killed in an accident on the Houston Public Road, East Bank Demerara on Wednesday.

The father of one, who lived at Young Street, Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara, was reportedly on his way home on motorcycle, CH 7915 when he met his demise.

According to the police, around 15:30hrs, Burrows was riding his motorcycle at a fast rate along the Houston Public Road when the accident occurred.

He was proceeding south on the eastern side of the eastern carriageway, allegedly at a fast rate, when, while negotiating a slight bend, he lost control of the motorcycle and collided with the concrete median.

As a result of the collision, Burrows was flung into the air and landed on the road surface. He suffered multiple injuries to the body and was picked up in an unconscious state by a public- spirited citizen and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor. He died while receiving treatment.

However, members of Burrows family are claiming that he was not speeding at the time of the accident and they are awaiting closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the police. Investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
