Parfaite Harmonie resident granted bail on one charge and remanded on another

RYAN PERSAUD, a 25-year-old man of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, charged with assault and abusive language was, on Wednesday, March 26, 2020, granted bail and remanded by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs – Marcus.

Persaud appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to the charges, when they were read to him.

The first charge alleged that Persaud, on Saturday, January 4, 2020, on Hadfield Street, unlawfully assaulted Ainswort Mason to actually cause him bodily harm.

The second charge alleged that Persaud, on Saturday, January 4, 2020, on Hadfield Street, made use of abusive language to Ainswort Mason.

The prosecutor objected to Persaud being granted bail, on the grounds that Persaud had provided false identification of himself which had led to the corruption of the summons. In addition, Persaud was ordered to appear in court on March 18. However, he failed to make his appearance due to the fact that he had given his name to the court as Leon David.

Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs–Marcus remanded Persaud to prison for the ‘assault’ charge and granted him $5,000 bail for the ‘abusive language’ charge.
The matter was adjourned until Wednesday, April 22, 2020.
