Accused rapist granted bail

A 26-year-old security guard, on Monday, February 17, 2020, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, charged with raping a 14-year-old school girl.
Esmund Adams, of Princess Street, Wortmanville was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where the matter was held in-camera.
It is alleged that, between December 1 and 31, 2018, at Princess and Adelaide Streets, Wortmanville, Georgetown, the accused engaged in sexual penetration with a 14-year-old girl

Adams was not required to plead to the charge. He was released on $150,000 bail and ordered to return to court on February 25, 2020.

According to reports, the victim and the defendant were involved in a relationship. It is alleged that, during the period mentioned in the charge, Adams took the child to his residence and engaged in sexual penetration with her.

It is alleged that, after committing the act, he took her to a house located on the West Coast, where she was forced to stay for several days. However, the child’s father learnt of her whereabouts from someone. The child’s father went to the location but Adams made good his escape. The matter was reported to the police.

However, during the month of December 2019, Adams went to Police Headquarters for a police clearance and he was arrested. An investigation was launched and he was charged.
