– Visitors accorded traditional Guyanese welcome at CJIA

KNOWN for our unique Christmas celebrations, Guyana is welcoming thousands of persons this season. With two days left until the peak of the most anticipated holiday season, the Guyanese Christmas experience is off to a grand start for incoming passengers at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).

Trinidadian Jason Johnson is in Guyana for what he describes as the best Christmas in the world.

“It’s different from all the others. Well, I live in Trinidad, but it’s really different from Trinidad. I love the pepperpot, the garlic pork, the cook-up, cane juice, cherry juice and these kinda things. And the vibes, the vibes different,” Johnson declared.
Canadian resident Michael Haimraj shared his love for Guyanese Christmases.

“I’ve been coming here for the last five, six years, regularly. Can’t get enough of this country. So, what I expect for Christmas is excitement, and a good time with family and friends,” he said.

First-time visitor Kamlata Prashad, who has lived between the UK and Canada her entire life, is excited about her stay.

“I love it. You all welcome the foreigners and everybody,” Prashad remarked.
Treated to slices of our unrivalled black cake, steelpan music and Christmas hats from the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), CJIA and Digicel, the visitors have begun their Christmas the right way.

“I came here for Christmas to celebrate my grandfather’s 80th birthday. My family always talks about how great the Guyanese Christmases are, they say it’s a good time to meet up with everyone, and you get to see your whole family and enjoy your day,” said Dillon Barry, a first-time visitor who plans to celebrate his best Christmas yet.
The GTA and the CJIA have embarked on a special welcoming treat over the last few days for incoming passengers who are coming to enjoy a Guyanese Christmas; one which comes highly recommended. (DPI)
