THE Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) says that the recent allegations on social media of mistreatment of a nurse by a superior, are being investigated and the appropriate action will be taken.

In an anonymous post shared by social media personality Melissa Atwell, on Thursday, a nurse claims that her underwear was personally inspected by a female superior to prove that was menstruating, after instructions came from a male superior for such to be done.
According to the post, the nurse said after working a night shift, she was instructed to attend an early morning meeting with the male director. The nurse said she requested to go home and attend to herself first but instead, the director requested sanitary napkins for her, and in a room, in the presence of other superior supervisors, she was instructed to go to the washroom and have the inspection done.

“The Board and Administration of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) note the recent circulation on social media of posts by members of staff relating to allegations of mistreatment by their supervisors,” the hospital’s statement said.

“At approximately 4:30 P.M. on Thursday, December 5, 2019, a matter allegedly involving a nursing assistant and some senior nursing personnel was brought to the attention of the Administration, and an investigation was instantly initiated.”
Since the nurse’s report, other nurses, all anonymous, have since also shared allegations of issues that they have faced.

“The GPHC has established mechanisms accessible to all staff for making complaints, conducting investigations and providing appropriate redress. The GPHC wishes to guarantee the public that it condemns all forms of misconduct and misuse of authority, and the corporation remains committed to maintaining a healthy and productive work environment for all staff,” the statement said.

Atwell has become popular for sharing anonymous posts on her page, based on messages she says are sent to her. Earlier this year she became embroiled with the Balwant Singh Hospital for sharing allegations against that hospital and one of their doctors.
Atwell was later suited for $10 million by the hospital and that case is ongoing.
Through the same means, Atwell also earlier this year brought to light several issues that were ongoing at Republic Bank, where customers had money deducted from the their accounts.
