THE Ministries of Education and Social Protection are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sexual assault of a six-year-old pupil who was allegedly beaten and sodomised in the washroom of an East Coast Demerara (ECD) school.

“The Ministry of Education wishes to advise that an incident involving students is actively being investigated and a number of stakeholders are involved in the matter. The Ministry of Education is appealing to individuals to desist from sensationalising issues related to minors and to engage in responsible reporting,” the Education Ministry noted.

The Child Care and Protection Agency (CCPA) which falls under the Social Protection Ministry is currently playing its part in the investigation before the child speaks to police investigators.

Police in sub-division C (East Coast Demerara) confirmed that investigators are currently probing the incident after a report was received earlier in the week.

The matter was reported to police after the child told his father about the incident when he returned home from school.
