GUYANA Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GABFF) president Keavon Bess and Assistant Director of Sport, Melissa Dow-Richardson, strengthened ties for 2020 and beyond, as the government continues its support of the fraternity.

Bess, along with Mr Guyana/2019 CAC gold medallist Kerwin Clarke, made a courtesy call on Wednesday at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Main Street; where the Federation boss presented Dow-Richardson with a financial manifesto on behalf of the Federation for its future endeavours.

The document outlined three major areas of work which the Federation plans to strengthen heading into the new year.

Those designated areas include continued support for international representation by the weightlifters with more emphasis being directed towards lightening the financial load with regard to the athletes’ competition in the 2020 CAC tournament set for Colombia.

The final request was a major one, as the GABFF is keen about Guyana successfully winning a bid to host the 2022 CAC Championships. Guyana once hosted a successful CAC back in 2004 and the federation head was firm that Guyana can repeat such a momentous feat; which will equally boost Tourism in this contemporary time.

Regarding the overall support of the bodybuilding guild, the Assistant Director of Sport pledged full support on behalf of the Government. She specified that once transparency and good bookkeeping are upheld, the government will continue to invest in bodybuilding as well as other sports in Guyana. (Clifton Ross)
