Body of missing farmer found floating in Pomeroon River

POLICE are investigating the death of 53-year-old Winston Alberta called “Jim”, a farmer of Akawini Creek, Pomeroon River.

Reports indicate that Alberta allegedly drowned sometime between November 30 and December 2 at Akawini Creek Front. Enquiries disclosed that “Jim” was living with his sister, Renitta English, at Akawini Creek, where he was a farmer.

He would normally set a seine in the Pomeroon River and would check the net based on the tide. Enquiries revealed that on Saturday, November 30 about 18:00hrs, “Jim” left home, while under the influence of alcohol, to check his seine with his paddle boat. He did not return home for the remainder of the night. The next day, his sister got worried and formed a search party. The party found his boat tied to a tree next to the creek. However, on Monday, a villager saw his body floating towards the mouth of the Pomeroon River.

Police were summoned and the body was examined and photographed. No marks of violence were seen. The body was taken to the Suddie Hospital Mortuary where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
