THE Cuban Embassy in Georgetown recently paid tributes to iconic leader, Fidel Castro (1926-2016), with several tributes dedicated to remembering his legacy on the third anniversary of his death.

Also in attendance were President of the Guyana Cuba Solidarity Movement (GCSM), Halim Khan; Minister of Labour, Keith Scott; former President Donald Ramotar and other special invitees.

A video presentation was shown at the embassy on the life of Fidel Castro.
GCSM President, Halim Khan said Castro lives on in the minds of his people and his legacy still earns the admiration of those from around the world.

Khan said everyday reality offers proof of the affection for ‘the Chief’ as many called him, as hundreds of people every day visit the Santa Ifigenia Patrimonial Cemetery, and in front of the huge granite rock where Fidel’s ashes lie.

Khan said Santa Ifigenia records also reveal that about 270,000 foreigners from more than 80 countries, from all continents, have visited the site to pay their respects to Fidel.
