AN Essequibo man charged with unlawful and malicious wounding was on Tuesday arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Twenty-one-year-old Vivian Christian was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on November 7, 2019, at Stone Hill Backdam, Cuyuni River, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Rayesh Lall.

According to Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield, the defendant and virtual complainant know each other and on the day in question, the two men had a misunderstanding. Consequently, Christian broke a beer bottle and dealt the virtual complainant several stabs to the neck and face.

Lall was rushed to the Suddie Hospital and was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he is a patient.

Prosecutor Mansfield objected to bail being granted Christian because Lall is still hospitalized; additionally, according to the prosecutor, Christian gave the police and the court two different addresses.

Magistrate McLennan remanded Christian to prison and transferred the matter to the Bartica Magistrates’ Court for November 21, 2019.
