Berbice men bonded for 12 months for assaulting each other

CHIEF Magistrate Ann McLennan on Tuesday dismissed charges of assault against two Berbice men who assaulted each other during a fight.

Thirty-five-year-old Shameer Jabar and 36-year-old Ronald Seebacahan of West Coast Berbice appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to the charge, which stated that on November 6, 2019, at Aranka Landing, Cuyuni River, they assaulted each other during a fight.

According to statements presented by Police Prosecutor Mansfield, on the day in question at Aranka Landing the two men had a misunderstanding. The misunderstanding was caused by Seecharan’s intrusion into a conversation Jabar was having with a woman; the intrusion angered Jabar who armed himself with a piece of wood and began to hit Seecharan about the body; Seecharan then wrested the piece of wood from Jabar and hurled it to his (Jabar) forehead.

However, the men told the court that they had come to an agreement while they were incarcerated and no longer wished to proceed with the matter.

Magistrate McLennan, after listening to the statements presented in court, dismissed the matter and placed the duo on a bond for 12 months.
