MATTHEW Parks of Freeman Street, East La Penitence, was, on Thursday November 7, 2019, committed to stand trial at the High Court for the murder of a Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) employee.

The 21-year-old man was not required to plead to the charge which stated that, on September 13, 2018, at D’Urban and Chapel streets, Lodge, he murdered 23-year-old Roger Alleyne.

Magistrate McGusty stated that, after considering the prosecution’s evidence, the court found sufficient evidence against Parks.

According to information, on the day in question, Parks was on duty at a Mini Mart located at D’Urban and Chapel streets, Lodge, when Alleyne went to the mart to make a purchase. The two men had an exchange of words due to a misunderstanding and Alleyne subsequently left.

Alleyne returned later and, as Parks exited his work place, he was confronted by Alleyne who was reportedly armed with a piece of wood and a knife. A scuffle ensued and both men sustained injuries. The men were escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where Alleyne underwent emergency surgery for two suspected stab wounds. He later succumbed to his injuries.
