The Ministry of Social Protection (MoSP) and the Department of Labour (DoL) will meet executives of the Australian-owned gold mining company, Troy Resources Inc as investigations continue into the death of geologist, Ryan Taylor.

Taylor died at the company’s Karouni Gold Mine operations in the Cuyuni Mazaruni Region.
Minister with responsibility for Labour, Keith Scott, confirmed the meeting, which is scheduled to be held at the East Street office of Minister of Social Protection, Amna Ally.
“Minister Ally and I will be meeting with Troy Resources tomorrow at her office,” Scott affirmed.

The company has been in the spotlight since Taylor died at the company’s “Hicks One Extension” pit while on duty. He was buried beneath the rubble of part of the mining pit which had collapsed.

Following his death, investigations were launched by the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) and the Occupational Health and Safety Department (OHSD) under the MoSP while the company was said to have also launched its own investigation.

Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman, confirmed that he had received the GGMC report on 17 October while Minister Scott said the OSHD’s report “is being finalised”. Minister Trotman said the situation is now being handled by the MoSP.

“It’s all in the hands of the MoSP, and that’s all I can say right now,” Trotman explained, in response to questions on Tuesday.

Trotman shared that he still plans to visit the company’s Karouni Gold Mine operations in the Cuyuni Mazaruni Region and hopes to do so later this month.
