ON Saturday, ‘For the Children Sake Foundation’, in collaboration with Adolescents Health Department, Ministry of Public Health, Linden Fund USA, Mayor’s Office and Vernon Todd Foundation, hosted a Cancer Awareness Health outreach at the Wisroc /Amelia’s Ward Park.
The outreach was held under the theme “It’s a big deal”, and, during the event, a number of hampers and bags were distributed to cancer survivors. The outreach also brought smiles to the faces and filled the hearts of the persons who received hampers.

The Executive Officer of ‘For The Children Sake Foundation’, Vernon Todd, stated that, too often, precious lives are interrupted or cut short by cancer. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women. It affects over 230,000 women as well as 2,300 men each year and is responsible for more than 40,000 deaths annually in the United States.
He added that breast cancer does not discriminate. It strikes people of all races, ages, and income levels.

“As we raise awareness of this disease and its symptoms, we can easily identify it and more effectively treat it. This month, as we honour those whose lives were tragically cut short by cancer, and as we stand with their families, let us arm ourselves with the best knowledge, tools, and resources available to fight this devastating disease” Todd said.

The Mayor of Linden, Waneka Arrindell, and the office manager of Linden Fund USA, Cheryl Waithe, were also present at the event to give their support.

Regular screenings and quality care are vital to improving outcomes for millions of people. Women and men are advised to take precautionary action on their own, by talking with their health care providers about what they can do to lower their individual risk factors, and learning about what tests are right for them.
