… GHB reels out fixtures for remainder of 2019

THE Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) plans to wrap up 2019 with a bang, as a number of high-profile tournaments are set to smack off in a few weeks.

Hockey players across the board will be upbeat, following the confirmation of what could be considered mouth-watering indoor events. The first tourney will see players locked to do battle in the GT&T National Indoor tourney, which gets underway October 14 to 20.

The follow-up event, which spikes off from November 6 to 10, will feature a number of Guyana’s brightest upcoming junior hockey players vying for a chance to prove their supremacy.

Saving the best for last, GHB will then host their grand event of the year; the Diamond Mineral Hockey Festival from November 27 to December 1.

It will be a definite treat for fans of the sport as a host of national male and female star players will duke it out in hopes of retaining their titles. Newbies will likely be seeking to etch their names in the champion books.

Reigning, defending junior champs Old Fort will come up against the likes of Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Pitbulls, who will also be aiming to defend their U-21 title. Other defending junior champs include St Joseph and GCC Bingo Spartans who are the custodians of the U-16 title.

In the highly-anticipated senior category, the war will feature big guns in the Men’s leg; Old ‘Old’ Fort, defending champs Pepsi Hikers and GBTI GCC who ran roughshod over their opponents in last year’s edition and will be seeking to maintain their dominance come this season.
