THE streets of Linden came alive on Friday morning as nursery, primary and secondary school teachers, who were joined by students of the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE), from across Region 10 displayed tremendous stamina and imagination as they marched and danced through the streets on their way to the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground (MSC) where a rally was held.

Their very creative costumes with accessories, banners, placards and dance choreographies caught the attention of residents and their students who lined Republic Avenue and other streets en route to the MSC Ground to view the colourfully energetic parade.

Led by officers of the Region 10 Department of Education bedecked in African-inspired costumes, the teachers, representing various characters, showed that they are not only fit for the classroom but can keep a crowd entertained.

Stealing the show were the teachers of the Amelia’s Ward Primary School with their ‘granny-fit’ costumes, accessorised with white wigs, spectacles and walking aids. Their dance routine to the popular calypso of the same name received an overwhelming response from the crowd and their fellow teachers.

Other schools that stood out included One Mile Primary School’s ‘Guyana Amazon Warriors’; The Pine Street Nursery ‘Sailors’; the Mackenzie High School’s ‘Construction Workers’; and the Wismar Hill Primary School’s ‘Flight Crew’.

The annual march and rally culminated activities for Teacher’s Week 2019, which was held under the theme, “Young teachers, the future of the profession”. It also coincided with the observation of World Teacher’s Day on October 5. (DPI)
