Man found guilty of robbery and assault to spend three years in jail

A 26-year-old Campbell Street, Albouystown, resident was, on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, sentenced to serve three years’ imprisonment by Magistrate Annett Singh, after he was found guilty on a series of criminal charges.

Orin Ridley was on trial before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, on two robbery charges, in addition to two charges for assaulting two police officers who attempted to arrest him.
Particulars of the first charge alleged that, on March 12, 2019, while armed with a gun, he robbed Sunika Ramkarran in the vicinity of Albert Street, Georgetown, of one BLU cellphone, a bag and an umbrella, all valued at $24,000.

The second charge read that, on January 31, 2019, at Albert Street, he allegedly robbed Akash Ramkarran of a pedal cycle valued $18,000 while armed with a gun.
He was also charged for assaulting Police Constable Nigel Reid who attempted to apprehend him at his Campbell Street home on March 12, 2019.

The last charge read that, on March 12, 2019, at his 173 Campbell Street home, he also allegedly assaulted Police Constable Clive Mark with the intention to hinder the police from arresting him.

The Magistrate found Ridley guilty of the offenses and sentenced him to two years’ imprisonment on each of the robbery charges and one year’s imprisonment on each of the assault charges.

The sentencing will run concurrently and Ridley will serve only three years in prison.
