Frustrated young man sentenced for robbery

ON Friday August 23, 2019, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, a young man charged with robbery, was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment by Senior Magistrate Leron Daly.
Particulars of the charge stated that, on Thursday August 22, 2019, on Lance Gibbs Street, Queenstown, Storm Anthony Clarke robbed Carlos Manuel Santana of his wallet which contained his identification card and driver’s license and a sum of $16,640, property of Miriela Mijues Sanchez.

Clarke pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
Police Prosecutor noted that, on the day in question, the virtual complainant and his wife were walking along Lance and Gibbs Street, when Clarke, who was armed with an ice pick, approached them and demanded that they handed over their valuables.

Clarke attempted to escape but was apprehended by public-spirited citizens. A search was conducted and the items were found on him. He was arrested and later charged.

When asked why he committed the crime, Clarke said “the only reason I did it is because I was frustrated”.
