FORMER Deputy Mayor of Georgetown, Akeem Peters, has rubbished rumours being spread by the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) that he will cut ties with the coalition government and join the Opposition.

On Saturday, Peters said the rumours are untrue and he will never leave the coalition.
“There are a lot of rumours going about, not only about myself, but about key young figures, not only in the government but also in the coalition…. and today I would like to take the opportunity to say to the naysayers and to the gossipers that no way am I leaving the government, nor am I leaving the coalition,” Peters said.

Peters said he believes coming forth and shutting down the rumours is a stance other youths need to take to show they are proud supporters of the coalition.
“I chose to believe in the coalition government and its leader David Granger and also the mentorship of Director-General, Joseph Harmon… so long live the coalition and long live President David Authur Granger,” he said.

The young councillor urged the youths in the audience to believe in the coalition since it is a caring government that has the interest of youths at heart.
Director-General, Joseph Harmon, who was also at the forum, urged the residents to shun the Opposition-generated fake news.

Rumours of other young people of political parties making up the coalition began to surface after former PNC member, Dave Danny Jr, recently announced on social media that he will be leaving the party.

Danny and his father, Dave Danny Snr, were seen in an Opposition-led protest last week.
At a PNCR press conference on Friday, executive member Aubrey Norton, described the Dannys as weak targets who were lured into the illegal wealth of the PPP.

“They are a party out of power, but they are a party with a lot of illegal wealth at their disposal, they are a party that was linked to a criminal state in which they accessed drug resources, back-tracking resources, so while they might not be in government, they have filthy lucre that they can share out and give out, that they can cause the weak, cause the vacillated to move.

To us it is not a surprise,” Norton posited. “If two people opted out of a good life because of immediate self-gratification, then we can’t do anything about that. Two might have left, but we don’t advertise how many came, including from the PPP, but many came,” Norton said.
