DCB elections halted by another Court matter

THE long-awaited Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) elections, which was billed for yesterday at the Demerara Cricket Club pavilion, was again halted by another court matter.

Chronicle Sport was reliably informed that the DCB’s stakeholders have decided to postpone the elections until a Stay Order application is heard later this month before Justice Rishi Persaud.

The Stay Order application was filed in the names of Anand Sanasie, representing the West Demerara Cricket Association and Anand Kaladeen, on behalf of the East Bank Cricket Association, to block the electoral process.
Subsequently, that application was granted.

Meanwhile, in an invited comment yesterday, Arudranauth Gossai, attorney representing the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), the East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB), and the Upper Demerara Cricket Association (UDCA), confirmed that both sides agreed to cancel the elections until the matter is heard early next month.

This new development further affects the smooth operations of the board, the first legitimate board since 2009.

Justice Navindra Singh ordered in June that the DCB must hold elections no later than August 11, 2019, after an application to the Court for the holding of the DCB elections was made by Roger Harper, in his capacity as President of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA); Davteerth Anandjit, in his capacity as Secretary of the East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB); and Bradley Fredericks as President of the Upper Demerara Cricket Association (UDCA).

The respondents were Kalladeen, Sanasie, Raj Singh, Alfred Mentore, Ravindranauth Persaud, Suresh Persaud, Lalta Digamber, Colin Europe, Rohan Sarjoo and Ray Persaud.
