EIGHTY youths from Region Four are now certified after completing training in a self-development and life skills programme. With these new achievements, they are better prepared to adjust to any environment.
This year’s three-week programme was hosted by the Junior Chamber International (JCI), aimed at empowering young minds for business and innovation and was facilitated under the theme “be better”.

On Wednesday, at Banks DIH Headquarters, Thirst Park, training manager of the beverage company, Sonya Forrester, congratulated the 2019 summer programme graduates.

Forrester disclosed that the project objectives sought to engage, empower and inspire children to reach their full potential. Throughout the exercise, participants were given support from the facilitators to make this possible.

“Believing in the possibility of our children is something that is highly promoted and encouraged, especially as parents. The success of the initiative is largely accredited to the passion and willingness of the organisers and parents who sent their children daily,” Forrester noted.

JCI is a non-profit organisation of young active citizens, who are engaged and committed to creating a positive impact in their communities. President of the Junior Chamber International (JCI), Regina Cornette-Bunbury, disclosed that the organisation comprises citizens from all sectors of society. It helps to develop skills, knowledge and understanding to inform better decisions-making.

JCI Guyana focusses on several areas of opportunities such as individual, community and international development and business programmes. Parents and well-wishers, who all gathered at the ceremony, were amazed at the various hand-crafted items which were completed by the children during their three weeks of training. At the end of the ceremony, the audience was entertained by dances, songs and other cultural items. (DPI)
