CARL Hooper, a 31-year-old mechanic, was on Wednesday remanded to prison by Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty on a drug-trafficking charge.

Hooper, of Howes Street, Charlestown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and denied that, on June 7, 2019 at High Street, Georgetown, he had 12 grammes of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The unrepresented man told the court that two months ago he was released from prison after serving an 11-month sentence for robbery under arms.

Prosecutor Cron Blackman told the court that, on the day in question, the police, while on patrol, saw Hooper on High Street acting in a suspicious manner. Upon seeing the police, Blackman said Hooper threw a bulky black plastic bag to the ground and raised his hands, saying, “is a lil thing officer.” The police searched the bag and found a quantity of seeds, leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis.

Hooper’s next court appearance will be on July 3, 2019.
