Guyana outclassed by El Salvador 8-4

… to play Guadeloupe today

DESPITE a spirited performance by Guyana, they were outclassed by former Champions El Salvador 8-4 in their opening game of the 2019 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship.
Jamal Haynes netted twice (13th, 17th minutes) while Shane Luckie (6th) and Trevon Archibald (19th) contributed the other two. The team is made up of players from Linden; the only area with a Beach Soccer facility in Guyana.

Deshawn Joseph (captain) and, Jermaine Grandison, Michael Wilson, Kennard Simon, Keon Sears, Cordel Johnson, Jeffon Figueira, Ethan Sparman and Jashaun Moore are the other members of the team.

Following yesterday’s game against El Salvador, Guyana will play Guadeloupe today, and will close their Group D round of matches against Belize on May 16.
El Salvador, 2009 winners also 2015 and 2017 third-place finishers of the tournament, will face Belize today.

Guadeloupe opened the tournament with a 7-6 win over Belize.
Guyana are no strangers to the tournament, with the ‘Golden Jaguars’ defeating Belize 4-1 in the group stage and Antigua & Barbuda 6-4 in the placement stage, to end 12th out of 16 teams. (Rawle Toney)
