CHIEF Magistrate Ann McLennan on Friday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court ordered Marvelous Gentle to perform one month of community service for breaking and entering the stall of a Stabroek market vendor.

The order entails Gentle doing three hours servive at the court, failing which will result in him having to serve one month in prison.

Gentle, who resides at 83 Duke Street, Kingston, Georgetown, pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on May 7, 2019, he broke and entered stall 55, property of Denraj Narine located at the Stabroek Market and stole one music box valued $3000.

The prosecution, represented by Tracy May Gittens, is contending that on the day in question, Narine secured his stall by the means of eight padlocks and a grill. Later that day around 17:15hrs, he went back and observed that the grill on his stall had been ripped open and the music box missing.

Narine subsequently made a report to the Stabroek Market Police Outpost. On May 9, 2019, a constable who was on patrol saw Gentle and observed that he fitted the description given by the virtual complainant Narine at the station. He approached Gentle, told him of the allegation and Gentle admitted committing the offence. He was then taken into custody.

Gentle reportedly told the police that he had sold the box to another person, who was charged with receiving stolen property and will appear in court during the coming week.
