SIX months after Sylvester De Mendonca of Lethem, Region Nine, was killed in a motorcycle accident at the St Ignatius Village Bridge, the driver of the vehicle who struck him down has not been charged.
The family of De Mendonca, who died on October 9, 2018, has since been calling for justice but to no avail thus far.
His mother told the Guyana Chronicle that police are wilfully dragging their feet on the investigation.
Reports indicate that the 23-year-old died on the St Ignatius Bridge after colliding with a pickup that was crossing from the opposite direction at the same time.
According to the police, the motorcycle was proceeding north along the St Ignatius Public Road at a fast rate of speed and upon approaching the bridge collided with the pickup.
The bridge can only accommodate one vehicle at a time. His body was picked up and taken to the Lethem Public Hospital Mortuary.
The driver of the pick-up, Ramesh Barker, 45, was taken into police custody and later released on station bail.
