…meets, discuss bilateral relations with Ghana’s President

President David Granger has completed his regime of radiotherapy in Cuba and will be returning to Guyana later this evening.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of the Presidency and attributed to Guyana’s  Ambassador to Cuba, Halim Majeed, there has been no complication in this cycle of treatment the President received and his medical specialists are looking forward to his full recovery.

President David Granger greets His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, who at that time was on a four-day State Visit to Cuba.

The President will continue a schedule of medication prescribed by his doctors and is expected to return to Cuba at a time to be determined by his Cuban medical team.

In terms of his resumption of official duties, the President’s medical team has cautioned against too heavy a work load immediately and have advised that care must be taken in pursuing excessive public engagements at this time.

President Granger has iterated his gratitude to Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Raul Castro, First Vice-President of Cuba Salvador Valdes Mesa, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban Ambassador in Guyana Narciso Reinaldo Socorro, the Medical Team at CIMEQ, the CARICOM Caucus in Cuba, and the many colleagues, friends and well-wishers who have extended best wishes for his full recovery and have prayed for his return to good health and physical well-being.

President Granger is being treated for Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma – a type of cancer.
He arrived in Cuba on April 2, 2019 for further medical evaluation, and has been keeping an active schedule in Havana.

On April 6, President Granger received His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, who at that time was on a four-day State Visit to Cuba.

The two Presidents discussed economic and cultural cooperation and agreed that relations between the two States should be deepened. In the context of those discussions a Ghanaian Delegation is expected to visit Guyana later this year.

President Akufo-Addo was accompanied at his meeting with President Granger by Kwaku Agyemang Manu, Minister of Health, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Education, and Napoleon Abdulai, Ghana Ambassador to Cuba.

Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla met President David Granger on Thursday, April 18.

This is the fourth time that the Minister has seen the President since he has been undergoing medical treatment and evaluation in Cuba. He warmly congratulated the President on the state of his physical well-being and the completion of the cycles of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
