SIX males are in police custody after 16 kilograms of compressed cannabis were found in two separate hire cars in Berbice.
According to police, on Sunday at approximately 16:00 hrs, two well-coordinated operations netted the illicit drug. Reports indicate during the police operation at the eastern end of the Berbice River Bridge, a hire car was intercepted and the driver and three passengers were thoroughly searched.
During the search of the car, police found 10 parcels of cannabis with an approximate weight of 4,593 grammes.
Meanwhile, about an hour and a half after the first operation, another hire car was intercepted at New Amsterdam where police discovered two parcels of cannabis concealed in the trunk of the car. The occupants were taken into police custody as investigation continues.
