Conquerors out of ‘juice’ at 2019 Caribbean Club Shield

… Guyanese club beaten 4-0 in final game against Santiago de Cuba

GUYANA’S Fruta Conquerors bowed out of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football’s (CONCACAF) 2019 Caribbean Club Shield in Curacao, following their 4-0 defeat against Santiago de Cuba.

The defeat was the club’s second of the tournament, following their opening 2-0 result against Scholar International SC.

The result against Santiago de Cuba meant that the Guyanese club failed to score in their three outings in Curacao, given the fact that their second game of the tournament saw them play to a scoreless draw (0-0) against home side Jong Holland.

In their clash against the Cuban club, Rolando Abreu pierced Fruta Conquerors’ goal twice; first in the 40th minute and then in the 50th, while Jorge Villalon (43rd) and Eddy Olivares (71st) were the other goalscorers for the victors.

The winners of the 2019 CONCACAF Caribbean Shield, provided that said team fulfil the CONCACAF Regional Club Licensing criteria, will have the opportunity to face the fourth-place finishers of the 2019 Flow CONCACAF Caribbean Club Championship in a playoff match to determine the fourth Caribbean representative in the 2019 Scotiabank CONCACAF League.
