Double strike from Rodriguez ends Antigua & Barbuda’s CONCACAF Championship bid

BRADENTON, Florida – Antigua & Barbuda failed in the bid to qualify for the 2019 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship, when the Dominican Republic (DR) took them down 2-0 in Sunday in the deciding match of Group B.

The DR became the 20th and final team to qualify for the Championship following two goals early in the second half from Franklin Rodriguez which floored the Antiguans.

The result earned the DR the top spot in Group B with nine points, three points ahead of the Benna Boys.

It was a tense first half between the two sides, with things still undecided and scoreless at the break.

Rodriguez however, broke the deadlock in the first minute of the second half, and extended the DR’s lead 10 minutes later.

From this point, the DR pratically parked the bus, although making a few counter-attacking moves, and saw out the rest of the match to book their tickets to the Championship.

Play will resume for the Championship Round from May 1 to 16
