Dishonest neighbour

MICHAEL Smith was yesterday arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for simple larceny.

It is alleged that the 57-year-old of Lot 137 Pike Street, Kitty, between March 16, 2019 and March 17, 2019, stole a battery worth $30,000, 2 mirrors worth $6000, a sun visor valued $8000 and an electrical wire worth $6000 from Vishwanand Narine. Smith pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to Police Prosecutor Annalisa Brummel, the court heard that the complainant and defendant live six houses away from each other. On the day in question, Narine left his car to attend to a matter. Upon his return he noticed that the items were missing and there was blood on his vehicle with a trail. He followed the trail of blood which led to the accused and when he confronted Smith, he quickly escaped.

A report was then made to the Kitty Police Station. As a result, a search was conducted at Smith’s residence and the stolen items were recovered.
Smith was remanded to prison and he will make his next court appearance on April 10, 2019.
