Three years for trafficking ganja

SENIOR Magistrate Leron Daly, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, on Friday, March 22, 2019, sentenced a man to serve three years behind bars for trafficking over eight grams of cannabis.

Michael O’Brian confessed that, on March 20, 2019, at Kitty, he had 8.69 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

According to Police Prosecutor, Sanj Singh, on March 20, 2019, at about 10:30hrs, ranks of a mobile patrol observed O’Brian walking and acting in a suspicious manner. The ranks then contacted O’Brian and conducted a search on him.

Singh explained that five small zip lock packets containing leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be cannabis, were found. In court, O’Brian begged the magistrate for clemency saying he did not want to waste the court’s time. Magistrate Daly sentenced O’Brian to serve three years imprisonment along with a fine of $30,000.
