CLIFTON John appeared before Principal Magistrate, Judy Latchman, at the Providence Magistrate Court, on March 14, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
It was alleged that on Sunday March 10, 2019, Clifton drove his minibus BTT 6162 along the East Bank Public Road whilst under the influence of alcohol.
He was stopped for a routine check and when tested by ranks at the Providence Police Station, was found to have above the permitted level of alcohol in his system.
When the charge was read to him by the magistrate, the defendant pleaded guilty and offered an explanation. He stated that he is not a drinker but he was with family earlier in the day and he took a drink.
However, Magistrate Judy Latchman fined him $7,500 or an alternative of 14 days in prison.
