AFTER seven years of continued support, Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) under their Pepsi brand renewed their partnership with the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) yesterday at their DSL Cash and Carry location on Back Road, East Ruimveldt.
Speaking at the press conference, GBA head honcho, Steve Ninvalle, said that he was pleased with the continued sponsorship which has made a significant impact on youth development

“Through this partnership, we at GBA have been able to organise the Mike Parris Pepsi Junior tournament for seven years, the likes of Keevin ‘Lightning’ Allicock was discovered at that tournament, along with a whole host of other young talented boxers.”

Ninvalle revealed that it has been the “longest sponsorship deal with any entity. For seven years running we have had the privilege of having Pepsi on our side and we have always tried to ensure that the tournaments are something the sponsors could be proud of.”
The GBA boss also expressed optimism of bettering last year’s total of 12 U-16 tournaments. He also noted that Guyana will be going all out to retain the Caribbean Schoolboys & Juniors ‘Nuff Cuff’ title.

Meanwhile, GBA’s Technical Director, Terrence Pool, thanked DDL for “staying the course and assisting GBA in a truly valuable way”. He highlighted that “a lot of emphasis is being placed on our nursery of boxers; we want to continue to grow. DDL must continue to have confidence in the youth system”.

Poole also let slip that a ‘Pepsi Elite’ Boxing tournament is in the making.
DDl’s Larry Wills confirmed his company’s support saying, “We will continue to do so in years to come and we look forward to the partnership. DDL is all about encouraging development among the youths of this country, thus our support at the grassroots level.”

Meanwhile, GBA’s second competition of 2019 will begin tomorrow at the Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis gym in Albouystown from 13:00hrs.
