Nursing student in court for fake Facebook profile, threats

A 19-year-old Guyana School of Nursing Student was, on Friday, February 22, 2019, arraigned before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly for creating a fake Facebook account and threatening her friends online.

Nanshalee Bowen of Middle Walk, Buxton, made her appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was charged for the improper use of a telecommunication system.
Particulars of the charge alleged that between November 14, 2018, and December 14, 2018, at Georgetown, she created a fake Facebook profile using her personal phone and sent messages to Omeika Frank to cause a menace or annoyance.
Police Prosecutor, Sanj Singh, made no objection to Bowen being given her pre-trial liberty. Magistrate Daly released Bowen on $20,000 bail and adjourned the matter until February 27, 2019.

According to reports, Bowen and Frank were friends, and had lived together while attending the Guyana School of Nursing.

It is alleged that Bowen reported to the Criminal Investigation Department, headquarters, that she was being bullied and threatened on Facebook by a fake account.
An investigation was launched and Frank was contacted, where it was revealed that she was also being harassed by the same fake account.

An analysis was done on Bowen’s phone and it was discovered that her claims were fake and she was also the mastermind behind the fake account.

It is alleged that Bowen used the fake account to threaten Frank online, along with two other friends. Bowen is expected to be charged for threatening her two other friends with the fake accout
