Region Two organises Inter-Agency Day of Sports for Friday

A GRAND Inter-Agency Day of Sports is billed for Friday at the Anna Regina Community Centre ground as part of a series of activities planned by Region 2 Mash Committee in celebration of the nation’s 49th Republic Anniversary.

Among the sporting disciplines to be undertaken will be male and female softball cricket, 7-a-side football, dominoes, circle tennis and 100- and 200- metres male and female athletic races.

The competing agencies will include Region Two Administration including staff and RDC councillors, Drainage and Irrigation, Public Hospital Suddie, Anna Regina ‘G’ Division Police Station, Anna Regina Fire Service, Essequibo Technical Institute, Guyana Power and Light, Guyana Defence Force, Department of Education, Henrietta United Sports Club and National Insurance Scheme.

Spearheading Region Two cricket challenge will be National T20 all-rounder Ramesh Narine along with Anthony Persaud, Basil Persaud, Nazir Khan and Jermain Springer while Portia Jacobs, Ashaa Das, Sarah Spellen and Victorine Norton will also exhibit their skills against their female counterparts.

Keen competition is anticipated as the Administration seeks to foster greater social cohesion and interaction through sports, according to Events Coordinator and Assistant Regional Executive Officer (AREO) Yvette Hastings-Tafares.

Special appearances will also be made by the Regional Chairman Devanand Ramdatt, Regional Vice-Chairman Nandranie Coonjah, Regional Executive Officer Denis Jaikaran (Sr), Member of Parliament Hemraj Rajkumar, Prime Minister’s Representative Karran Chand, Principal Personnel Officer Bibi Rameeza Mullah, Senior Personnel Officer Gaitri Ramnarine, Chief Accountant Shushiela Boodram, Social Cohesion Officer Pansy Garraway and Sports Organisor Debra Daniels among others.

The first activity will commence at 10:30hrs. Trophies and medals, compliments of the Administration, will be presented to the winners. Admission is free as the public is also invited to witness the fun-filled events. (Elroy Stephney)
