Miner remanded for killing drinking partner

CHIEF Magistrate Ann McLennan on Monday, February 11, 2019, remanded a 33-year-old miner to prison for allegedly killing his drinking partner during an argument.

Paul Charles of Foulmouth Village, Essequibo River, made his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was not required to plead to the capital offence.
Particulars of the charge alleged that, on February 7, 2019, at Foulmouth Village, Charles murdered 32-year-old Cedric James.

Charles was remanded to prison until February 21, 2019, and the matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.

According to reports, Charles and James were imbibing alcohol at the Foulmouth Village landing when an argument ‘erupted’ between them after the victim brought up Charles’ criminal past.
