THE Corentyne Highway will come alive with cycling action on February 23 (Mash Day) when the cream of the crop of the country’s cyclists will don their cycling gear to wheel off in the 2019 Benjamin Sports ‘Mash Day’ classic road race.

This highly anticipated race is expected to roll off at 10:00hrs in front of the Benjamin Sports Store and Fitness Gym located at Lot 220 Courtland Village Corentyne, Berbice.

A gruelling contest is expected as the riders will be looking to take full advantage into the new season. The wheelers will have a rolling start towards No. 1 Road and proceed to No. 59 Village (Primary School) before returning to its starting point for an exciting finish.

The event is open to all cyclists. Lucrative prizes will be on offer for the first 15 riders who cross the finish line.

The visiting wheelers will have to be at their best as the Berbice cyclists will be determined to salvage lost ground in their quest for victory.

In addition to the cycle race there will be added attractions for the many sports enthusiasts who will be on hand when emphasis will be shifted to the gym. Gym members and interested individuals will be engaged in weightlifting competition, cardio challenge and other novelty activities.

The event is being sponsored by the former national cycling champion and now businessman, Wilbert Benjamin.

Benjamin stated, “This event will also be in observance for my dad’s 85th birth anniversary. A lot will be up for grabs for the first 15 finishers. All systems are in place and I expect a good race.”(Colin BynoeJnr)
