Mother mourns sudden death of baby

A YOUNG mother of Leguan, Region Three, is mourning the sudden death of her 14-month-old baby who passed away on Saturday at the Leguan Cottage Hospital.

The mother of the infant, Baebare Ramlakhan, 32, of Lot 32, Enterprise, Leguan, said her daughter was born with an illness suspected to be a heart disease.

She related that her child was hospitalised for almost a year at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), existing only on substitute milks.

On July 21, 2018, the baby was discharged from the GPHC and was living with her parents at Enterprise, Leguan. The mother said from time to time, she would take the child to the Leguan Cottage Hospital for routine check-ups.

On Friday, the mother put the infant to sleep and around 01:30 am when she woke up to do feeding, she noticed the baby was not responding.

She immediately called a taxi and took the child to the Leguan Cottage Hospital. There, the child was examined by a doctor and pronounced dead.

The mother told the Guyana Chronicle that she is heartbroken by the sudden death of her baby. The body of the toddler is at the Leguan Cottage Hospital awaiting a post-mortem.
