COMPETING in the `Carib Soca Monarch’ competition for the first time, semi-finalist 21-year-old Shaima Muna is excited to show Guyana what she is made of, with her groovy soca, “Not Tired Yet.”

Muna comes from a family filled with talented singers. Her decision to compete for the Carib Soca Monarch title was one she did not consider. “For me, singing has been in my life for a very long time. My grandmother and my uncle used to sing calypso… I grew up with my mom in karaoke… I really wanted to try something different. I was up for the challenge and, so I joined the Soca Monarch competition because I knew that it would be a great opportunity for me to showcase my talent,” she explained.

The newcomer to the` Soca’ competition said that while there are worthy competitors, she knows that her talent will help her to take home the title and crown of this year’s event. This win is one she hopes to take home for her daughter and mother. “Everyone is there. They are representing me all the way and in everything that I do in life, they are always there to support. So, this will be great for everybody,” she said.

A resident of Tuschen Housing Scheme, Region Three, Essequibo Islands-West Demerara, Muna hopes that this will also be a win for the region. She among the line-up of artistes for the `Soca’ rehearsals set for February 1, at the bandstand, Kingston Seawalls.
The `Carib Soca Monarch’ finals will be held on February 16, at D’urban Park. (DPI)
